Good Read…

A round of applause for the increasing fragrance and grooming coverage in men’s magazines. The more men paying attention to these details, the better. I cannot tell you how many women I speak with who are in favor of guys putting more effort into how the smell and look. Anyhow, here’s a quick roundup. Continue reading

Good Read…Props Due

If you pay attention to fashion and lifestyle magazines, then you look forward to September issues. They’re usually jammed packed with new products they’ve christened as “the” must have items for the fall. As I perused through Men’s Health, I came across a particular article of interest titled, “Kick The Tires Before You Buy A Cologne.”

I’m often asked to give advice to men about cologne and I always start with the importance of sampling. After all the reading and research one can possibly do, it is the most important part of the process. We tend to be rushed when making grooming purchases because for some of us, it’s the last thing we want to be doing at that moment. When purchasing a fragrance, however, it can be a costly mistake if you don’t exercise patience. That said, I was thrilled to see Men’s Health echoing the same sentiment. It’s a quick read, but loaded with good advice.

As if that wasn’t enough to be happy, my September issue of Details finally came. (I was just about to go out and buy a copy when I saw it looking up at me one night on my bar.) As I flipped through its fashion editorial, I stumbled upon, “Find Your Fall Fragrance.” The story highlights six scents it deems the seasons finest, and I’m not mad at the selections. I must say, Details has really impressed me with its fragrance coverage. I featured one its stores back in June and here again, its back with a good collection for the September issue.

Go forth and sample gents until you find a scent that pleases you. The fall has some good ones to choose from. Keep a lookout for my Fragrant Night Out. It’ll be here before you know.

Good Read…Details Special Grooming Guide

I’d like to tip my hat to Details for, yet again, placing a spot light on men’s grooming and fragrances. You may remember I posted a Good Read from its April issue, a little late I might add. This time, I received my issue on time and I was floored by fifteen pages of editorial coverage.

Of course its fragrance editorial interested me most. Featured brands included, Bulgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine Tono, YSL L’Homme Cologne Gingembre, Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Eau De Cologne, Original Penguin For Men, and John Varvatos 10th Anniversary Fragrance.

Pick up the July issue and find out the where you should get your hair cut, shower gels you should check out, a list of Apothecaries worthy of visiting and more. Well done Details.

Good Read…Props Due

It’s May already and I don’t even know where April went. I was thumbing through some of my piled up mail the other day and came across the April issue of Details magazine. I don’t even know if I missed it or if it just came. (The beginning stages of a new subscription can be a little tricky.) What I do know is it features on all-star lineup of men’s fragrances. I was particularly happy to see Atelier Cologne in there. I posted about its Oolang Infini earlier this year and I’ve heard nothing but praise for Vanilla Insensee, which Details chose to feature. All of the other fragrances are worthy of your consideration.

But wait, it gets better. A few pages later, they bless readers with a nice selection of “guy appropriate” candles. I can’t remember ever seeing a men’s magazine this stocked with scent related stuff. Well done Details.
