Good Read..Scents of Spring

Image

With Daylight Savings going into effect this weekend, we’re all looking forward to spring. Those extra moments of sunlight will be celebrated with outdoor cocktails, breezy strolls and flirty innuendos. As a precursor to the season of relief, LifeStyle Mirror produced a piece about the Scents of Spring. They asked me to be a part and to my surprise, I’m in the midst of great company. My thoughts are alongside Chad Murawczyk of Min New York, David Moltz of DS & Durga, Francis Kurkdjian, Christopher Cervasel of Atelier Cologne and Carlos Huber of Arquiste. Check it out when you have a moment.

Forget about the hour of sleep you lost and look forward to spring baby…it’s right around the corner.

Good Read…GQ’s The Style Guy

For millions of us here in New York City, taking the subway is a part of our daily lives. For some, if you’re lucky to get a seat, it’s a moment to catch up on sleep, while others choose to pass the time listening to music, playing video games or reading a newspaper, book or magazine. The other day I broke out the latest issue of GQ’s The Style Guy and I damn near jumped out of my seat. Continue reading

Good Read…Your Top 10 Grooming Fails

We all have some sort of grooming routine. Brush teeth, shower, shave, moisturize, apply sunscreen, spray cologne, repeat daily. Sound familiar? Whatever habits you have, there’s a good chance you either get lazy some days and skip certain things or you’re just doing something wrong. I mean, who can remember everything? Continue reading

Here’s a look at our five day forecast

I was recently asked to participate in a fun assignment for Lifestyle Mirror. They wanted me to suggest a scent based on what the weather would be for a particular day. I thought to myself, “I love this one.” The twist though, the site caters to women. Could I pull it off? Whenever I walk into a store, I’m all about finding the men’s section and seeing what’s being offered to us. Nevertheless, what I ended up suggesting was a new scent by Atelier Cologne called Rose Anonyme. It is simply fantastic and the best part, it can be worn by either men or women. Continue reading

Well Done Mr. Porter

A funny thing happened last week, as I was on my way to the Today Show, a clan of men in suits greeted me. One handed me a folded up newspaper that I accepted and I went on about my business. Later that day, I saw them riding around in another pack, but this time they were driving pedicabs. All of this creativity was for the promotion of USA Networks show, Suits.  Continue reading

Good (Quick) Read…Fragrant Moments on Birchbox Man

A few months back, Birchbox Man reached out and expressed interest in having me talk about fragrances on their recently launched site. Naturally I was excited by the opportunity and then life stepped in. With the perfect storm brewing, every possible obstacle got in the way of making this a reality. Fortunately they didn’t lose interest and it’s now live.

This particular posting really touched me. My brother, who is no longer alive, is mentioned in this piece. It almost brought me to tears when I read those few line because it instantly took me back to my childhood. Then I realized, it’s a form of thanks to him for recognizing how in tuned I am with my sense of smell. Anyhow, here’s my interview…it’s a good (quick) read.

Good Read…Men’s Health Grooming Awards

For men’s magazines, March and September are big issues. It’s usually when you’ll see the most fashion coverage and they distill seasonal trends. Its a must read if you like to be in the know about that sort of stuff. I, however, look forward to the June issue of Men’s Health as it’s when they conduct their annual Grooming Awards.

Each year, Men’s Health consults a panel of grooming and fragrance aficionados to seek out the best products in myriad categories. What you’re left with is an excellent list products worthy of your consideration.

For the past few years, Brian Boye has asked me to contribute to the fragrance category and I look forward to it. Where else are you going to get all of these products in one issue? This year, he sought out my opinion on how much fragrance one should apply, in addition to other topics, and I’m quoted in the issue.

The June issue is on newsstands now. Pick it up. It’s a good one.

A Fragrant Elements Showcase

On a leisurely Saturday afternoon driving around Brooklyn with my wife in late December, searching for some Jack Purcell’s, I stumbled into Ouigi Theodore’s The Brooklyn Circus and chatted up the Bearded Man himself. I’ve known him for a few years and we’ve talked about collaborating for a while. With the Elements Show quickly approaching, he asked if I was interested in contributing to the show’s magazine. What follows is just that, A Fragrant Moment with The BKc.

Good Read…Antenna Magazine Winter Issue

A few months back, the Editor-In-Chief of Antenna magazine contacted me about writing a piece on scent. We talked about this a few years back but the stars finally aligned. Part of that delay was my own. I really like Antenna’s editorial point-of-view and wanted to be sure I was ready with my own. When that email finally made its way into my inbox, I was ready.

To me, scent is a detail more men should pay attention to. We make conscious choices about the clothes we wear, how we style our hair, yet for some, when it comes to scent, we couldn’t be bothered. Well, this piece in Antenna is my attempt to reverse this thinking. I hope you enjoy it and if you do, let them know.

Thanks to Kaity and Sarah for making this dream of mine a reality.

Good Read…I had fun with this one

The last few months have been kind to Fragrant Moments. First there was Complex magazine, and now Men’s Health. When its Fashion and Grooming Editor, Brian Boye, gave me a call and said he wanted my contribution on this story he was working on for the November issue, I was awe-struck. I’ve known him for years and I admire his work and I read the magazine, regularly. And while I’ve worked with him on the yearly Grooming Awards, it still felt special. I’m passionate about fragrances and opening my readers eyes to the many options out there. So its nice when I’m asked to contribute elsewhere. Anyhow, I hope you guys learn something but the bottom line is you’ve got to get in the stores and sample.

Thanks for the opportunity Brian. Let’s do it again.
